Buses
We're told that we are having new buses in Norwich. We
wonder if these 'new' buses are the same as the present buses, designed to drive
on the right-hand side of the road. Obviously obtained from mainland Europe.
Genuine British buses should have their exhaust pipes away from the pavement,
where their emissions can be expelled without slowly killing off pedestrians.
One should also ask the question 'Why aren't they Electric?
It should be easy enough to recharge batteries at the beginning and end of
journeys. They could have been charged from the electricity generated by our incinerator (rejected) making the
cost of travelling cheaper, (85% higher than in mainland Europe).

Cycling in the City
Most pedestrians accept that in certain places within the city, cycling on the road is just plain dangerous. They therefore have some sympathy for cyclists in sharing the pavements with them. However, this creates a new danger of cyclists approaching pedestrians silently from behind - in that, a pedestrian can so easily step into their path and be injured or cause the cyclist to be injured. The cyclists using pavements should therefore be required to have a device e.g. bell, to warn pedestrians when they are approaching from behind.

English Leaders
Political parties elect the leader of our Norwich government.
This restricts the number who can be selected for this position to
those few people who belong to the elected political parties; and who is to know
that there is a natural leader amongst them i.e. a person who can extol the
virtues of Norwich and take responsibility for the objectives he or she was
elected to achieve. There are some excellent leaders in our county who should be given an
opportunity to apply for the position of elected mayor.
A person having stated his objectives to the people of Norwich, and been
elected, would be responsible for ensuring that the majority party running
Norwich carried out these objectives, whilst ensuring at the same time, that the
unelected executives within the council received the correct pay for their
responsibilities and that they supported those objectives for which the mayor
was elected.. This in effect gives power to the people in that they have a
specific leader responsible to them and not to the government.

Norwich
One wonders how many people in Norwich participate in its
administration. Strange, arty structure in the Haymarket which are two small for
the space, swimming pools with as much imagination as a rectangular hole in the
ground. Do we have any history which can be displayed? Where is there an
imaginative statue to Thomas Marsham who reinvigorated the weaving industry in
Norwich by inviting 'strangers' from abroad (Strangers Hall), who brought madder
a special dye (Maddermarket), and where is the recognition of our shoemakers,
who manufactured millions of pairs of shoes.
In 2012 we have the Olympics. Where
in Norwich can the general public observe and support, in an arena type
building, competition between the various clubs in Norwich and Norfolk in
displaying to us the expertise of our young people in e.g. gymnastics, table
tennis, volley ball, bmx, boxing, martial arts etc. Is it sufficient for the
national lottery to pour millions of pounds into Olympic preparation without our
locally being able to give support to those who have the desire to hopefully
participate. Additionally, in parents taking children to these competitive
events and in listening to an audience appreciation, their imagination might stimulate them into future participation.
Having said the above we would like to congratulate the city administrators for an excellent 2008 festival - the kids liked the elephants.

Local Side Roads in Norwich
One wonders when observing thousands of pounds of road resurfacing machinery being used to resurface a road in Norwich (Wymer Street), which will not be resurfaced again for at least thirty years, why at least three cars parked in the road were not forcibly removed before work began? Instead, the machinery had to manoeuvre around these cars resulting in rectangles (where these cars where parked) not being resurfaced. In addition, because of the manoeuvring of the resurfacing machine, the end result has required many visits by road repair-men to fill the many holes. We ask the council responsible - where were the inspectors? You had four hundred available when smoking was banned in public places, and where was the local politician? In addition, why was the tarmac laid so thin and why were the pavements painted instead of skimmed, as required in order to removed the damage done by the laying of internet cables within them? This paint has now worn off and it is as if no remedial work has been done. Wymer Street is on the eastern side of the city centre, one wonders whether this standard of public maintenance would be tolerated on the south side.

Drugs in Norwich
A young person hooked on Heroin in Norwich
wanting to kick the habit and stop thieving to supply it, went to the doctor:
The doctor referred him to one of two centres and he chose
the Ber Centre -
drugs still needed - still thieving.
-
1st appointment at The Ber Centre -
discussion as to who he or she was and what drugs were being used -
drugs still needed - still thieving.
-
2nd appointment - a urine sample was
requested - drugs still needed still thieving
-
3rd appointment - results discussed
about the urine test - drugs still needed still
thieving.
-
4th appointment - Tritation test
(determines concentration of a substance) carried out over a period of
four or five consecutive days - drugs still needed
still thieving.
5th appointment - a script for Methadone given to alleviate his Heroin withdrawal symptoms - stopped thieving!
This process takes twelve to fourteen weeks. (Drugs)
A young man aged 27 died alone today in Norwich 20th March 09 - overdosed while waiting for his appointment.

Affordable Housing?
Having looked at a flat with the possibility of buying or renting. I
noticed that a room which was described as a bedroom was just about big enough
to get a single bed in. One asks the question when one talks about affordable
housing 'how big should a room be for it to be described as a bedroom?'. Should
a bedroom only be described as such, if it can contain at least a single bed, a
small wardrobe for clothes, a chair to sit on and a dressing table. Does the government set
minimum sizes for rooms in the houses our builders are erecting - or is this
considered to be an interference with profit.
Additionally, what inspections do the council carry out in
the provision of quality houses or flats being constructed in our city,
affordable or not, badly constructed houses are the future slums. To be
dependant on a builders association to maintain quality, is is not very
intelligent as these associations are financed by the builders.
A final point to builders. Sliding doors were invented many
years ago. They are not only used in science fiction films, they can also be
used today in our new housing. Enabling more space in both small and large
rooms, and are less likely to damage people than a swinging door.

The Norwich Incinerator
Price of off-peak electricity in Norwich can be as low as 4p / kilowatt-hour. Landlords in the UK are charging 10p / kilowatt-hour for a pre-paid electricity supply, using cards supplied by themselves. People who use this method are usually pensioners or the low-paid.
In Norwich, our green brigade supported by our Evening newspaper have prevented an incinerator from being built as part of our waste disposal plan. They have argued that it would pollute the atmosphere and cover Norwich and the countryside with toxins.
The Germans have been burning brown coal for fifty years or more in their power stations, and their country is one of the cleanest in Europe. Why? Because they spend the money to remove any pollutants from passing through the chimneys.
However, the neurotics have succeeded in Norwich, and instead, a plant will be built to convert any excess waste into garden fertilizer. To produce this fertilizer these neurotics have sanctioned the movement of hundreds of diesel trucks per year delivering waste to this new plant and from there distributing the fertilizer to whoever wishes to buy it. Is the noise and fumes from these trucks a pollutant???
We think they were stupid in making the above
decision. In the first place an incinerator built in 2008 should not emit any
smoke or toxins i.e. no chimney.
In the second place it should have been
proposed that the incinerator be used to generate electricity (no pollutant and
one less wind farm), thus making the
re-cycling plant more efficient. How would it do this? The gases from the
incinerator's exhaust, would
firstly past through a heat-exchanger which would
use the heat to produce steam, this would drive a steam turbine electricity
generator. The electricity would be used to provide lighting, power, etc for the
re-cycling centre, power to drive air through the waste and any surplus sold to the electricity companies. Secondly,
the reduced temperature of the exhaust gases after passing through the heat
exchanger, would be cleaned (carbon removed) and used to heat the re-cycling centre building
or nearby housing, when necessary.
Finally, our not-so-forward thinking people, could have used this cheap method of producing electricity to power an overhead tram service into the city from the Costessey Park and Ride site. Giving tourists and commuters from our suburbs, a clean, cheaper, and easier access into the city. It would also have cut down the tyre and engine noise (pollutant) from the road traffic coming and going down the Dereham Road; which road side dwellers have to live with. Such a proposal would have been very environmentally friendly and therefore supported by a grant from the European Union. More Info on a overhead tram.

1. A nice little earner for those polluting our countryside, who intend to live abroad.
2. A possible method of producing electricity in our countryside, when the Queen has a 'farm' in Buckingham Palace grounds. Having German ancestors, we suspect that she accepts the viewing of these crazy English fast fix ideas - through a pair of reversed binoculars.

Is the Law an Ass when interpreted
by town and city councillors?
Churches are being forced by British administrators to put up all weather
'No Smoking' signs over their entrances,
or they will be fined for not informing
the public that smoking a cigarette is forbidden in public places.
Has anyone
ever seen a person smoking a cigarette inside a church?
The churches reply,
"The people who have sanctioned this have obviously never been inside a church,
or they could have enjoyed the smell of rich burning incense ".

Information about The European Union
In 1965 the Government announced support for metricating the UK within 10 years - meanwhile our school children learn the length of a mile off the roadside signposts, and quite probably, have difficult estimating the length of a kilometre which is part of the metric system that they are being required to pass in their examinations?

Pioneered in Middlesbrough, speakers on lamp-posts to shame people who drop litter. We wonder, in what concentration camp the ancestors of the idiots who thought up this idea were employed. Being aware that the English were the first to build concentration camps in Africa, it's possibly inbred.

Wymondham, a nearby town, is worried about its boundaries merging
with Norwich. The question for Norwich people is, "Do we need more housing
estates on the outskirts of our city?".
Shouldn't we be knocking down the older houses as they become vacant
(within the city) and using the space to accommodate more people in
high-rise flats (which should be high quality, and have one, two or three
bedrooms at a level which is above the noise of the city; they would also
need a caretaker)? Simple logic seems to favour this, as it will generate
more accommodation within the city, and reduce the traffic from the
estates which are at present being built further and further from the city
centre. It would also reduce the 'Coronation Street' feeling of our city
streets by reducing the number of houses and allow more green space
between the new flats. The building of these flats would also enable the
parking of cars within the new design, thus solving the problem of
emergency vehicles attempting to get down our 'parked car' filled streets.

Allotments: some information on how to obtain an allotment in Norwich.
------------------------
Our politicians enacted a law that required places in which alcohol was consumed to also provide food. The purpose of this was to prevent young men from getting too drunk and drowning in our river.
A recent programme by a top gear presenter proved
that eating food whilst drinking reduced
the breath analyser reading by approx. ten times; down from 126 to 11.
Due to the slack-Harry way in which our civil servants draft laws in this country, this law has been by-passed by most of our pubs and clubs (they simply provide unattractive packets of crisps and other plastic bag assortments). If the civil service was connected to this society they would know that when you draft a law you have to dot the Is and cross the Ts. Therefore, they should state, 'if you want a licence to serve alcohol in a city or town centre public house, you will supply attractive hot and cold snacks or sandwiches. Very complicated? Our chief constable has said that 'He has no ideas on how to solve the late night drink problem' - possibly he might observe when entering a British pub the absence of anything except a row of beer pumps and bottles of e.g. whisky behind the bar. These bars are catering for guests - and no decent person would invite guests to enjoy a night out with them, without providing some imaginative snacks for them to eat, thus offsetting the effect of alcohol later in the evening

Never say "I am in love with you" to a person until you make that
person a friend with whom you can discuss
your most intimate secrets, and feel confident that they are telling you
theirs. Once you have achieved this, you must still maintain your own
interests and a percentage of independence to fall back on, just in case
you lose your 'love' (by 'fair means or foul!'). Subsequently, you have to
be aware that every new day makes your partner different; therefore, you
have to continually update your knowledge of him or her to stay in contact
and still be able to re-state 'I love you'.
